During my third year studying Construction Engineering and Management, I undertook a placement year with John McQuillan Contracts. This opportunity provided me with invaluable experience and allowed me to work alongside experienced engineers who were excellent mentors. My time at McQuillan Companies has been very beneficial, providing me with the opportunity to develop new skills and gain practical insights that I can take with me throughout my future career. From the moment I joined, I was warmly welcomed by every member of the team, which allowed me to settle in quiet quickly. I am currently pursuing a BSc in Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management. I am currently in my third year of study; I had the good fortune to complete my placement year at John McQuillan Contracts Ltd. I’ve been able to expand my expertise and understanding of the construction sector thanks to John McQuillan Contracts. I’ve been fortunate to work in a fantastic environment that has encouraged and guided me all year. I have developed crucial skills that I will utilise throughout my career as a Quantity Surveyor due to the diverse range of projects I have been involved in.

I am currently studying Biochemistry with Professional Studies at Queens University. After completing a week of work experience with McQuillan Environmental when studying for my A- Levels I gained insight into the type of job that would suit my interests. Included in my degree program is a year in industry which I decided to come back and complete with McQuillan’s. During my time here I have been able to put theory learnt from my modules into practice which has further expanded my understanding of topics within my degree. Working alongside experienced analytical chemists has helped me gain essential skills and knowledge within the laboratory that I will use throughout my career.

I studied Environmental Science with DPP at Ulster University from 2014-2018. I graduated with a 1st class honours and a distinction in the Diploma of Professional Practice. In 2016, I completed a placement with McQuillan Environmental as a ‘Student Laboratory Technician’ from July 2016 to September 2017. The placement helped broaden my understanding of the environmental/agriculture sector and gave an insight into the working life within a UKAS accredited laboratory, this is through the completion of analysis which I was able to take in to my university studies and use in many projects and practical assessments including my final year dissertation. Following completion of my degree, I was offered the opportunity to be part of the McQuillan’s Environmental team as an Analytical Chemist.

I am the HR Officer here at McQuillan Companies. As an HR Officer, I'm deeply passionate about the HR profession and the people it supports. I strive to create positive workplace cultures and boost employee engagement in everything I do. I am currently studying Civil Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast. This is my third year and for placement I decided to go with John McQuillan Contracts Ltd. Previous to joining the team I had heard great things, and since joining I have not been disappointed. They strive to accommodate and facilitate my growth as a young engineer. The skills John McQuillan Contracts have equipped me with, I will carry for my entire career as a civil engineer. I have done everything from surveying to material testing. I feel the broad range of experience I have been gifted me has given me great foundations for me to build upon in the future.
