Road Construction & Maintenance
We have extensive experience in the construction and maintenance of the road network for both the public and private sectors. Within Ireland this work is supported by bituminous and aggregate materials supplied by our wholly owned subsidiary, McQuillan Quarries. In addition to utilising our modern fleet of specialist plant and equipment, we work closely with a small number of partners who support our core services, for example through the provision of road milling, road markings and street lighting.
Civil Engineering Projects
John McQuillan Contracts has a diverse portfolio of successfully completed civil engineering projects and continues to deliver a broad scope of civil engineering works in the areas of transport infrastructure, public spaces, recreation, and private commercial and industrial developments.
A combination of in-house civil engineering staff and resources together with specialist partners are utilised to provide civil engineering solutions. High profile public sector clients include Department for Communities, Belfast City Council, Belfast Harbour Commissioners and the Education Authority.
Sports Complexes & Playgrounds
John McQuillan Contracts has been constructing sports pitch complexes for over 20 years. We can provide the complete package in all aspects of sports complex construction including but not limited to playing field construction, pavilion buildings and changing accommodation, floodlighting, ball stop fencing and spectator fencing.
We specialise in the construction of facilities with synthetic playing surfaces and have previously installed synthetic surfaces for a range of sports including football, rugby, gaelic football and hockey. These playing surfaces have been proven to comply with performance requirements set by organisations such as FIFA, World Rugby, GAA and FIH. The company has provided playground construction and playground maintenance services for key public sector clients such as Belfast City Council for over 50 years. We specialise in the installation of outdoor play equipment and safety surfacing, providing outdoor play spaces that help children of all ages to learn, develop coordination skills and challenge themselves whilst having fun and enjoyment.
Environmental Improvement
John McQuillan Contracts has been involved in many high specification public realm and environmental improvement schemes where the use of high quality natural stone products has been incorporated by way of kerbing, paving or decorative features.
Other common elements of these schemes include soft and hard landscaping, street furniture, amenity and feature lighting. These schemes have been located in towns and inner city locations where urban regeneration is the driving force.
Surface Dressing
We possess an extensive range of modern surface dressing plant and equipment. We are members
of the Road Surface Treatment Association and our products and services have achieved CE
Marking, BS:EN 12271 and National Highways Sector Scheme 13 certifications.
Mastic Asphalt Reinstatements
Using our polymer modified mastic asphalt we provide a flexible and convenient repair solution to ironwork and chamber covers on road and pavement surfaces, which are the most common locations of failure encountered in road surface maintenance. Advantages include significant improvements to surface lifespan, flexibility and regularity. Pre-coated chippings are applied to provide a skid resistance compliant finished surface which can be trafficked shortly after installation. Our mastic asphalt product is produced at our asphalt coating plant in Northern Ireland and is certified to EN13108-6..
Commercial Surfacing
Our team can provide resurfacing solutions and maintenance of existing assets including retail
units, office buildings and any commercial properties. We work closely with the client to deliver
solutions to ensure works are completed with minimal disruption to business operations.
Demolition
The company has been carrying out demolition works for over 50 years, continuously endeavouring to provide an efficient service in all aspects of dismantling and demolition. As a founder member of the Northern Ireland Demolition Association, we have continued relentlessly in the development and growth of the Association. In conjunction with McQuillan Environmental, our ability to recycle or suitably dispose of all types of demolition materials allows us to offer a complete professional package.
John McQuillan Contracts (Scotland)
In 2020, we established our Scotland Division. We have worked in partnership with numerous Tier 1 Contractors to deliver the bituminous surfacing package of works on high profile new build projects.
We have built relationships with these Contractors who repeatedly use our services and we work with local suppliers to ensure a quality product and service is delivered within the specified timescale. We have completed a number of Government funded projects as the Main Contractor directly for Local Authorities. Our range of clients also include commercial property owners who require our services to maintain their assets e.g. carparks by means of resurfacing. In 2023, in partnership with AMEY, we delivered the Surface Dressing Programme on the South West Trunk Roads for Transport Scotland.
