Preventative Gritting Service – Met Office Reported
McQuillan Outdoor is a quality mark holder for winter services achieving a coveted Met Office Gold Award. Using the official Met office site specific weather forecasting system, we provide a proactive and preventative gritting system. This ensures when temperatures drop you can be assured your business or organisation will be prepared with our support. As standard the trigger points on our contracted Winter Gritting Service are as follows:
Green – No weather warning – No action required
4 degrees or below and/or Amber/ Yellow weather warning – Consult and obtain approval and instruction for action.
Below 0 degrees and/ or Red weather warning – Contractor takes action
GPS Tracking and ISO Management Systems
Each of our expertly maintained vehicles is equipped with a state of the Art GPS tracking system. This ensures we can monitor the progress of your gritting service and guarantee all areas on your site are covered.
Specialist Vehicles
McQuillan outdoor operates a variety of vehicles in our extensive fleet to suit the needs of our broad customer base and all of Northern Ireland. Many sites come with different challenges including height restrictions, 4x4 access and large surface areas which need a large 18tn vehicles.
Our extensive plant list ensures that no matter what the challenge is (almost), we have the correct equipment to provide a safe and effective winter gritting service.
Hand Gritting & Inaccessible areas
All of our contracts involve a great deal of hand spreading & clearance of footpaths/inaccessible areas – e.g. footpaths, residential areas and schools. When servicing walkways & difficult areas within the site, where footpaths / walkways are present, gritting will be carried out via manual applications, i.e. our operatives will physically walk along and deposit the salt as required using pedestrian salt spreaders.
We will ensure vehicles will not be operated on footpaths which must be treated with pedestrian applicators. Care will be taken to prevent grit being spread onto grass.
Snow Clearance and Ploughing
We have 18 specialist snow clearance (snow plough) vehicles ready for deployment when we receive reports of likelihood of snowfall. This service is available during your contract and discussion surrounding this service can be discussed in full with your contract manager.
*We use white de-icing salt to BS3247 standard and we can offer environmentally friendly de-icing alternative on request
